Job Description

Position Summary

Information developers at Rockwell Automation are part of a team of communicators who craft a seamless customer experience from engagement to purchase and through the post-sale experience. As an information developer you will create conceptual, reference and task-type technical content for end users, supporting them along their journey of specifying, installing, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining products. Although you will focus primarily on hardware content, you will work in a collaborative environment that encompasses the entire portfolio of automation hardware and complex enterprise software used to design, maintain, operate manufacturing processes in all global industries.

Information Developers manage multiple project priorities, work directly with product development teams, and are engaged with evolving technical communication processes.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Working with a variety of different functions and levels of personnel in engineering, quality, marketing, and other disciplines to gather, organize, interpret, and synthesize source information.
  • Creating content based on functional requirements and product specifications for new product development.
  • Adapting factored product technical documentation to comply with Rockwell Automation requirements.
  • Ensuring that technical information products are developed according to defined models, processes, style guidelines, and templates, and optimized for translation.
  • Moving your technical information from creation to printing, language translation, and web distribution, while maintaining records retention compliance.


Depending on your background, you may work on modernizing content development methodologies or heading up special department-wide projects, leading to opportunities for professional advancement.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or communication field, or equivalent 3 years of experience in the technical communication field


Experience

  • Adobe FrameMaker authoring software.
  • Minimum of three years in the technical communication field, with at least two years of experience focused on creating customer-facing content for industrial equipment, electronics, or other technical subjects.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with a variety of levels and functions, and strong skills in gathering information from subject matter experts.
  • Strong written communication skills are critical and foundational to the role.
  • Self-motivated and proven ability to work independently with stakeholders that are located in remote office locations.
  • Ability to travel 2 - 4 weeks per year to meet with stakeholders.


Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of industrial automation control and information products (control systems, software, communication networks and sensing devices) or other highly technical subject matter.
  • Experience in an IIoT environment and knowledge of digital transformation trends in manufacturing.
  • Authoring tools: Proficient with Adobe FrameMaker, Acrobat, Illustrator and Photoshop; XML authoring tools such as Author-IT or Oxygen
  • Content Management Systems (CMS): Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) or similar tools
  • Demonstrated ability to manipulate engineering drawings to create technical illustrations.
  • Ability to present a portfolio of writing samples and/or previous work experience.
